Screen Time
Is not even a microcosm
Of a three dimensional reality
Rather a granular glimpse
Into a pixelated place
Generating a glow
On one’s face
By many light emitting diodes
In constant concert
Crammed into consciousness
Plus heat on your hand
There is no depth
To an experience
One has at a device
Save to fulfill
A meaningless vice
One dimensional
Near flat surface
Offers no advice
On how to quit
As a digital addict
Losing to time’s grip
Which we are ill equipped
“Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said;
“WE ARE ALL JUST PRISONERS HERE,
OF OUR OWN DEVICE(S)”
And in the master’s chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can’t kill the beast”
“Hotel California”
The Eagles
Yet here I am
Using the same tool
To divulge observations
As a means of self reflection
“What you see is not real,
Those who know will not tell
All is lost sold, your souls
To this brave new world”
– Iron Maiden
“Brave New World”
Is the alternative pen and paper
To get this scheiss out of my head
Buried in a notebook to be discarded
“The people will not revolt. They will not look up from their screens long enough to notice what is happening.”
– George Orwell “1984”
“My solipsistic world view
Doesn’t allow me to see
What may be real reality.”
– Angelo Devlin
