Chalk It Up

August 4, 2025

To experience

Whatever “it” is

It wasn’t fatal

Besides, even if

It was fatal

That would simply

Be another experience

It doesn’t end things

If you were you

Before you got here

Getting here

Is an experience

Likewise, leaving here

Is* an experience

Regardless of how

You exit the stage

“The program for this evening is not new
You’ve seen this entertainment through and through
You’ve seen your birth your life and death
You might recall all of the rest
Did you have a good world when you died?
Enough to base a movie on?

I’m getting out of here

Where are you going?

To the other side of morning

Please don’t chase the clouds, pagodas”

“The Movie” “An American Prayer “

– The Doors

* (Will be) would suggest

A “first” “time” experience

When logically, it seems

That would not be the case

“If you can just get your mind together
Then come on across to me
We’ll hold hands, and then we’ll watch the sunrise
From the bottom of the sea

But first, are you experienced?
Or have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have

I know, I know you probably scream and cry
That your little world won’t let you go
But who in your measly little world
Are you trying to prove that
You’re made out of gold and, uh, can’t be sold?

So uh, are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have
Ah, let me prove it to you

Trumpets and violins I can, uh, hear in the distance
I think they’re calling our names
Maybe now you can’t hear them, but you will, ha-ha
If you just take hold of my hand

Oh, but are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?

Not necessarily stoned, but beautiful”

– Jimmy Hendrix

As long as I’m closing
This out with lyrics
Here are a few more

“There’s time to live and time to die
When it’s time to meet the maker
There’s time to live, but isn’t it strange
That as soon as you’re born, you’re dying…

…and reborn again??”

“The Clairvoyant”

– Iron Maiden

“Mark my words believe my soul lives on
Don’t worry now that I have gone
I’ve gone beyond to seek the truth

When you know that your time is close at hand
Maybe then you’ll begin to understand
Life down there is just a strange illusion

Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Hallowed be Thy name
Yeah, yeah, yeah,
Hallowed be Thy name”

“Hallowed be Thy name”

– Iron Maiden

Can you imagine the amount

Of infinite experiences that

Can go on in infinity, infinitely

That would certainly make

Whatever your current conundrum is

Just another experience

To be chalked up…….

“Infinite Dreams”

There’s got to be just more to it than this
Or tell me why do we exist
I’d like to think that when I die
I’d get a chance another time

And to return and live again
Reincarnate, play the game
Again and again and again.”

– Iron Maiden

And finally…….

“People say maybe you’ll come back.

Reincarnation. Do you think so? Well, it doesn’t seem mathematically possible to me, man.

Ah, ’cause at one time, all we had on the Earth was 6 people, you know. I avoid 2 because it’s controversial, but 6. Most people will agree, “Oh fuck ya, we had 6 at one time, yeah” 6 people, 6 souls. Cool!

They died, souls went back to the place. 6 new people, souls *Whew* Still 6 souls.

Now we have 4 (8) billion people, claiming to have souls………………

Someone is printing up souls. And it lowers their value, you know.”

– George Carlin

It certainly does seem with so many soul, more than ever before, and more now than there was a minute ago, and even more right this moment that I’m typing than when I opened this post. More babies and people living longer. More souls than at any time ever before in history.

I do understand the concept of birth rate decline, but mathematically in absolute numbers we’re headed for a steady increase of total population for the foreseeable millennia. Given how hard it is to hold sacred even the ones in our own communities, how in the tarnation are we going to keep expanding our ability to hold the ever increasing masses? Sincere question.

We can’t close off. Our hearts haven’t come close to reaching their capacity, but the world sometimes points us to spin circles around our own bellybuttons. We need some faith and experience. Hallowed be thy name, indeed.
