Misguided Mission
By an Orthopedic Clinic
Plastering the highway
Obstructing good views
On not one billboard
But four in a series
Facing both directions
Read like a graphic novel
With both words and pictures
Encouraging risky behavior
Not as in deadly activities
Just where bones are broken
RUN, PLAY, LIVE, FIX
Something like that
As the message and pictures
Seem to change quarterly
(Have to do something with
Those gross gross profits
To satiate inflated egos)
Pictures of skiers, runners
Hikers and motorcyclists, etc
All geared towards the notion
If you break it we will fix it
Which is a strange large shingle
To hang out near the highway
If you break something you are
Headed to the closest ER
(Yes, honey I know my shin bone
Is protruding out through my skin
And blood is still dripping from
The open wound, but what is
The name of that ortho clinc?
Quick… drive by highway 55 & 43
Maybe we can catch the address
Yeah, the one with the smug picture
Of all white dudes in lab coats, standing
Arms crossed on the fourth billboard.)
As long as there is
Mind competition vying for one’s
Precious attention units
Wouldn’t it be better if book stores
Occupied that same space
With a more dangerous message
STAY, HOME, READ EVOLVE
We’re supposed to keep evolving. Evolution did not end with us growing opposable thumbs. You do know that, right? There’s another 90 percent of our brains that we have to illuminate.”
– Bill Hicks
Maybe…..we could grow another digit
………….To turn the pages faster.
“Just an observation,
Maybe I need
Different glasses.”
– Angelo Devlin
