Mr. Roboto

March 21, 2016

I remember pondering, years ago that this world would be better if children were raised by robots.

Contemplating that a properly programmed robot would have a better and broader understanding what a child needs. Plus, it would always be there and not leave, or pit you against the other co-parent robot.

Eliminate sexism, racism, hate, etc.

Eliminate manipulation and control for example Santa Clause. You know, where parents lie to their children, by perpetuating the use of a mythological invisible man, to get them to behave,  when hardly any other reasonable ways have been tried. Creating death defying consumerism to no end.

Teach them to question things, as a robot would never tire of that pesky “why” question.

Of course now after having typed that, realize that would best describe how I parented my non biological children. Which in turn, had similarities in my upbringing.

Here’s a good spot for some Styx lyrics from “Mr. Roboto”

I’ve got a secret I’ve been hiding under my skin
My heart is human, my blood is boiling, my brain I.B.M.
So if you see me acting strangely, don’t be surprised
I’m just a man who needed someone, and somewhere to hide

To keep me alive, just keep me alive
Somewhere to hide, to keep me alive

I’m not a robot without emotions. I’m not what you see
I’ve come to help you with your problems, so we can be free
I’m not a hero, I’m not the saviour, forget what you know
I’m just a man whose circumstances went beyond his control

Beyond my control. We all need control
I need control. We all need control

I am the modren man (secret secret I’ve got a secret)
Who hides behind a mask (secret secret I’ve got a secret)
So no one else can see (secret secret I’ve got a secret)
My true identity

Perhaps non biological sounds cold and detached,  I prefer it over “step” as that indicates something underfoot.

Observing them re-parent themselves by having mini versions of self and being both parent and child rolled into one, to do or to not do the things, their bio and non bio parents did and also to do the things they would like to have happened.

No one is taking me up on eliminating Santa Claus though.
