My only weapons are words

My only bullets are punctuations

My only cache is at libraries

My only scope is infinity

My only barrel holds whiskey

My only clip holds papers

My only target is blank

My only magazines are read

My only range is long

My only safe is empty

My only projectile is love

My only arms are for hugs

My only defense is no defense

 

I keep hearing that guns defend and protect

 

Will a gun defend you against rain

Will a gun defend you against wind

Will a gun defend you against fire

Will a gun protect you against an accident

Will a gun protect you from suicidal thoughts

Will a gun defend you while it’s locked up

Will a gun defend you under the mattress if you are in the garage

Will a gun protect you or your family against nuclear war

Will a gun defend or protect you against ……

 

Tell me again how guns defend or protect anyone

 

Besides, once you realize you are nothing more than a congregation of cells made up of protons, neutrons, quarks, etc and other sub atomic particles manifested interchangeably with waves.

There is nothing to defend that exists in this reality that could bring harm to you or your family.

Every first collective single, vile, loving, sad, happy, disgusting, pleasant, smelly, fragrant, harmful, helpful, dumb, educated, poor, rich, fat, skinny, tall, short, brown, pink, yellow, red, green, last one of us……..are all “family”

Family, is a concept that has as many definitions as there are 7b + bipedal earthling artists that can attach a word to that thought. Having as many malleable permutations as love or freedom.

Family, always evolving, changing, shifting, adding, subtracting, happy, sad, prosperous, broke, broken, blended, mixed, blood, security, home, gang.

Why is it then, in the public realm with so many variables would anyone accept family as a unified definition, when it means something different to 7b+ individuals?

Like when a politician uses it as a verbal tic. Saying that their gun legislation supports “family” and “American” values.

Huh?

Consider if the word family were replaced with enlightened, it would raise the expectation and expedition of what and where we could evolve to.
