Evolution To Devolution
We have memed and over populated ourselves out of anything reflecting “the sanctity of life”.
We went from
Cave paintings to hieroglyphics
Papyrus to paper
Books to bibles
Definitions to dictionaries
Rules to laws
Smoke signals to radio waves
Coins to cash
Telephones to television
War department to defense department
Truth to euphemism
The Moon to Mars
Encyclopedias to infinite information
Satellites to cell phones
Typing to touch screens
Banks to bytes
Beliefs to perceptions
Talking to texting
Tiny towns to manic megalopolises
Farms to food factories
Serenity to surveillance
Protection to brutality
Corruption to collusion
Legislation to concentration
Objective news to obnoxious opinions
Misinformation to manipulation
Recidivism to for profit prisons
Leaders to puppets
Talking heads to talking trash
People to polluters
Mother Earth to leaking landfills
“Is This The World We Created?”
– Queen
Just look at all those hungry
Mouths we have to feed
Take a look at all the
Suffering we breed
So many lonely faces
Scattered all around
Searching for what they need.
Is this the world we created?
What did we do it for?
Is this the world we invaded
Against the law?
So it seems in the end.
Is this what we’re all living for today?
The world that we created.
You know that every day
A helpless child is born
Who needs some loving care
Inside a happy home
Somewhere a wealthy man
Is sitting on his throne
Waiting for life to go by.
Is this the world we created?
We made it on our own.
Is this the world we devastated
Right to the bone?
If there’s a God in the sky looking down,
What can (S)he think of what we’ve done
To the world that (S)he created?
“So at best, the sanctity of life is kind of a selective thing. We get to choose which forms of life we feel are sacred, and we get to kill the rest.
Pretty neat deal, huh? You know how we got it? We made the whole fucking thing up!
Made it up, the same way we made up the death penalty. We made them both up, the sanctity of life and the death penalty.
Aren’t we versatile?!”
– George Carlin
