The miraculous technology is obviously very cool, from megapixels to terabytes. Self driving cars, interconnected satellites for GPS and instant planetary communication.

Likewise the creation of creature comforts is incredible. Food production, waste removal, half day intercontinental travel.

All fascinatingly amazing……..

However, it has become largely routine, to the point where some bean counter is sitting at an actuarial table calculating detailed spreadsheets. Birth and death rates, starvation and obesity statistics, glaciers melting vs. sea levels rising. Compiling more and more data on more and more metadata. Etcetera etc.

Or then say……

During the Miocene Epoch

Being one of the first hominids, making use of its evolutionary opposable thumbs. Free as all get out, granted, alive enough to wonder whether you are going to eat or be eaten. But very much alive. I can feel my heart beat rise thinking about it.

Very much connected to both life forces of mother earth and father sky. The pulsing oceans of underground internal heat matched in balance by the external heat and cool breezes.

Free, alive and naked too. Not adorned in some moronic loin cloth, artists like to depict early bipedal earthlings. To satiate some silly notion of either shame or modesty. Pooping and peeing in healthy balance with nature after eating and drinking. Now that is living.

Returning to the earth, what came from the earth, to be cycled like everything else. Not like trying to recycle plastic which will never get broken down to its original oil.

The earth doesn’t share our prejudice toward plastic. Plastic came out of the earth. The earth probably sees plastic as just another one of its children. Could be the only reason the earth allowed us to be spawned from it in the first place. It wanted plastic for itself. Didn’t know how to make it. Needed us. Could be the answer to our age-old egocentric philosophical question, “Why are we here?”

Which many conservatives believe only comes at the end of the barrel of a gun.

No mortgages, no bank account, no legislative governing body, no keys, no doors to lock, no appointments to keep, no places to be, no clock to watch, no watch to keep track of your steps, no car to crash in, no toilet paper therefore no toilet paper shortage. 

Dare I say it..No religion to tell you to hate your fellow primates, spawned from the same mother…..Earth. Why? Because gods or God had not been “invented” yet. Think about that.

That you are simply very much alive due to an evolutionary process, formed out of the primordial ooze on a planet in the Goldilocks zone. In an outer band of stars of just one of many billions and trillions of other galaxies.

Alive with wonder and no distractions, just raw trust in your abilities and instinct to live.
