Lyrically Abdicating Our Collective Responsibility
Is there no topic too ridiculous
To draw words out of my head
Through my moving fingers?
A better title might have been
“Hands”
Just in case you are wondering
Where this silly post generated
I found myself listening to
Pete Seger on my I Pod
First song up
“He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”
Mostly redundant but
Peppy and catchy therefore
Easy to infiltrate the mind
That an entity outside of one’s self
Is responsible for everything
Supposedly in caring control
“He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole wide world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the little bitty baby in His hands
He’s got the little bitty baby in His hands
He’s got the little bitty baby in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole wide world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got you and me brother in His hands
He’s got you and me sister in His hands
He’s got you and me brother in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole wide world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got everybody here in His hands
He’s got everybody here in His hands
He’s got everybody here in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole wide world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands
He’s got the whole world in His hands”
While I can not lay claim
To being uber responsible myself
I have a tendency to put things
In context of responsibility so that
I am not a victim of external forces
By building in bogus excuses
Casting blame on God’s will
Poor decisions and circumstances
Religion is loaded with that notion
That an entity outside of one’s self
Is responsible for everything
“He’s got the whole world in His hands”
How comforting…………Yeah….sure
But what if instead
Everyone learned that song as….
I have got the whole world in my hands
I have got the little bitty baby in my hands
I have got the whole world in my hands
I have got you and me brother in my hands
I have got you and me sister in my hands
I have got the whole world in my hands
Even though generally one can only
Be responsible for themselves
It would, umm might make some think
How connected to the errors of all
People’s behavior they really are
If indeed from the perspective that
You or me, myself and I
Had/have the whole world in my/our hands
For one, you would probably
Not have any enemies, after all you
Would have the whole world in your hands
What are you going to do…. drop them
So you could point at some of them to
Declare you don’t like them
Why would you do that?
“They” are in “your” hands
Simply because they do not look like you
Or act like you but mostly because
Society has indoctrinated people
Into accepting that the differences
Are nature’s way of separating us
That, and for a small few, capitalize
On being greed pig puppet masters
Pulling strings banking on distractions
“That’s the way the ruling class operates in any society. They try to divide the rest of the people. They keep the lower and the middle classes fighting with each other so that they, the rich, can run off with all the fucking money!
Fairly simple thing. Happens to work. You know? Anything different–that’s what they’re gonna talk about–race, religion, ethnic and national background, jobs, income, education, social status, sexuality, anything they can do to keep us fighting with each other, so that they can keep going to the bank!”
– George Carlin
Otherwise the accepted reality
Would be to look out for each other
Ourselves, instead of an invisible
Absent derelict alleged father figure
Who has nothing in his hands
When it could be the collective’s awareness
That the whole world is in our
“Hands”
Even defined in a dictionary ….
To show our
: personal possession
By our
: forelimb segment
As a
: as a grasping organ
Instead of
: an indicator or pointer
If we can only get it to occur in our
“Mind”
“Just an observation,
Maybe I need
Different glasses. “
