The Apology
Everyone deserves
But none will receive
Via a parental confession
“I didn’t ask to
Be here.
Someone created me.
Yes, I know that’s a selfish thing.
It’s a selfish thing.
But you know what?
I’ve cared about other stuff,
And, yeah, me not caring about stuff
Will, affect it as much
As me caring about stuff
Which is
None.”
– Doug Stanhope
The Apology
Our dearest offspring
It is with abysmal sadness
And our deepest regret
That we created you
Without your consent
We barely knew where
Children came from
Let alone prepare
To even have one
Or two or three or
Either side of twenty-one
We lied to you about
There being a God
Indoctrinated you into
Believing in Santa Claus
A twisted assumption
For a life of consumption
It is cliche to say
We did the best we could
Just adding more brood
For being in the mood
When we heard that
Your truths were clear
We acted as if
We didn’t hear
All we did is
What we learned
Doing the same
To you in return
Repeating with clarity
The definition of insanity
Consider an alternative
Had you had real parents
Lovingly guiding you to
Understand your divine spark
That you are entirely a
Manifestation of miracles
From inception to gestation
Run by a power source
Without any wires
Inhaling and exhaling
As if by magical means
Hearing silence through symphonies
Through three tiny bones
An offspring of Gaia consciousness
Participating on a playground
Of particles and waves
Engaging in thought as reality
And reality as a thought
Traveling through the cosmos
On a spherical mother ship
To experience a full life
Full of love, laughter and truth
Speaking a universal language
With query and compassion
Evolving towards harmony
Balancing with nature
Understanding the yin and yang
Of our anthropomorphic illusion
With other sentient beings
“If my parents were alive today I would sue them into poverty just for having me against my will.”
– Doug Stanhope
I owe no one any apologies. I can live with that.

That someday light may shine through”
