The Perfect Tatoo
Since everyone
Has a tattoo
I am going
To get one, too
One that I have
A story behind
Something clever
Permanent to remind
A unique one to
Make me feel special
It will be that of
A matching freckle
It will represent the
Microscopic dot
That began me
On full display for
The whole world to see
Of course, no one
Including me
Will know which one it is
But I guess that is what
The perfect tattoo is
Methinks very few people
Read the tattoo artist’s
Disclaimer release form
That read. This ink drawing
Is permanent. Ooopsie.
What? This giant cartoon
Super hero painted on my arm
Isn’t going to wash off
After Halloween is over
But I have a job where people
Are supposed to take me seriously
Sheeeeeyet
I have to wait until
My next incarnation
To make a different decision
I hope I can remember that
Thankfully, in my 20s
I met someone with
So many tattoos
They were individually
Indistinguishable and
Basically, his arms were
Colored green and gray
“Just an observation,
Maybe I need
Different glasses.”
– Angelo Devlin
Oh yeah!!! I’m all in agreement here.
I wonder if it’s a cry for help, or rather a cry for meaning. Are they wanting a sign or signifier that “means” things. Another form of virtue signaling? Maybe not virtue but a visual sign that tells people who they want them to think they are and what’s important to them?
It seems that one’s character was enough, the way one lived, and not everyone needed to know everything all the time.
You made me think! Yet again.
