Adventure…Some
Wouldn’t it be more adventuresome
If flying was inherently more risky
Say… one in twenty or so crashed
Not that I’m advocating for that
Rather more of a thought experiment
Manufactured from the cheap seats in
An aluminum tube 30K ft above (see) level
After being poked and prodded steered
Branded, through one way gates into a
Back straight, head forward, eyes glued
Feet crooked, elbows in, waist strapped
Technological marvel in the atmosphere
(Speaking of crashes, does anyone believe
That seat belt is going to do anything besides
Help identify bodies by seating assignment?)
Nevermind, here is the thought experiment.
What if….
Because of the above proposed risk the
Seating wasn’t so damned crowded and
Structured into fellow passenger ignoring
Screen staring, ears plugged conformity
The layout was as such that the seats
Are comfortable also even movable
Secured perhaps but more like a lounge
So that in two to seven hours on what
Might be your last flight anyway you took
A chance and unencumbered you spoke
(Ahhhhhhhh)(Yikes) with a “stranger” ??
Found out why they too were rolling the
Sky dice. Business, family, sightseeing
Or just a plain plane gambling addict
Like a grand scale of Russian roulette
Don’t get me wrong, I am good at avoiding
People like the plague, however in that
Given circumstance it would be interesting
Dialog beyond the usual cliche conversation
Of the uninteresting drivel that usually occurs
Where the answer is as programmed as
The innocuous question in the first place
Avoiding eye contact and emotions
With a looming gravitational demise
One could really get some insight into
A fellow earthly spaceship traveler’s
Fears, hopes likes and reason for the risk
So that if there were no crash at all
You would walk away with an experience
Unlike any other destination you could
Have possibly been to, that interesting
Besides, if for nothing else at all
Once and for all, to get on an airplane
You would no longer ever ever have to go
Through that illusion of the “security” check
Of the dehumanizing personal space violation
That systemic systematically happens now
“Just an observation,
Maybe I need
Different glasses.”
– Angelo Devlin
Hope you enjoyed this flight.
Great post. Seems to be true in all parts of life. We could connect with the actualHumanity we are.
